How to upcycle a T-shirt into a bag

Okay so I saw a picture on Facebook with no link source but a series of images on how to upcycle a t-shirt into a bag. Best of all NO sewing involved! I love when these types of project are so easy!

Just to test out the technique I used an old t-shirt.

I cut off the sleeves and then cut out the neck in a more scooped shape to define the bag handles.

Next I turned the t-shirt inside-out and lined up the bottom of the shirt so that I could start marking off 1 inch strips that were about 3 inches deep. I cut along the marks.

I then took one strip at a time and knotted the top strip to it’s matching bottom strip. Just a basic knot. But the difference is I made mine pretty tight because I wanted a rounded bottom to my bag.

Once I got through all the strips, I doubled back and tied each strip to the one next to it just to totally secure the closure.

Flip it back inside-out and voila!

Not bad. it makes a great bag for my son to use. But I wanted something a bit more prettier for myself.

I had a t-shirt that was too small but I didn’t want to throw out because I loved the print on it. I finally got to use it and totally love it! We used it as our beach bag during our trip to Toronto last week. Worked perfectly.

A great project to recycle t shirts that you don’t want to part with… even try t-shirts that your kids can’t wear but don’t want to part with anymore. They can store all kinds of things in their own custom bags!
